Lzette Felthun
The vessel is a powerful metaphor for the body, with each part of the pot being named for a corresponding area of the body. A full lip, a gentle curve of the neck, a round belly or a broad shoulder – these elements combine to animate the vessel.
Lzette Felthun is a ceramic artist who grew up and was educated in South Africa. Bachelor of Arts degree and diploma in Ceramics. She has won many awards, including the Pittwater Ceramics Award, Hornsby Sculpture Award and The Kerrie Lowe Gallery Award, and has exhibited her work at galleries in Sydney and New York.
The female form has always been the focus of her work. Her early work was influenced by the highly polished and decorated smoked stout cans of South Africa's Tovinda tribe, whose textures transcend classical pottery. She is now using her work to explore society's perception and representation of women.
